FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT INSPIRED HOME

Nestled in a private oasis on prestigious North Territorial Road in Plymouth Township, this home is a stunning piece of Post Modern architecture dropped into a secluded setting surrounded by other unique properties. The house has extensive landscaping that offers spectacular views which change seasonally. Built in the Prairie School style popularized by Frank Lloyd Wright, this home was designed by nationally known architect, Don Paul Young, whose custom designs dot fine neighborhoods around the country.

The most striking feature of this home is the building itself, which subtlety complements its surroundings. According to Young, such homes, “invite an effort to present them [the owners] more dramatically than their subdivision counterparts.” Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous "Robie House", this too is a dramatic structure with overhanging eaves, open rooms and lots of light. Everything in the surrounding environs, from the landscaping to the woodland creatures, to the humbling sunrises and sunsets unite the form and function for those who live here.

Just as simplicity and repose are the qualities that measure the true value of any work of art, the interior of this house, by any standards is exquisite. It is contemporary, filled with Philippine mahogany and incredible black walnut accents. The expansive terrazzo floors reflect custom stained glass works and reflect the subtle, indirect lighting that is used throughout the building. The real stars are the panoramic views of the carefully planned natural settings made even more intense by Young’s design which raises the great room to soaring heights and provides a serene enclosure in the sunken living room. Brick terraces are available to both of these rooms, accessed through custom doors. Other dwellings may have similar views, but they see them through little windows. This hope offers stunning walls of glass in ever room. This building offers a coherent whole; a marriage between its natural setting and the structure and a union between its interior and the structure. Its owners truly live in a wonderful piece of art.
